So, how was your worldwide knit in public day?

It's my new favorite holiday!

Now, no one here in Vegas put together a big shindig, so what I did last Saturday could really be recreated any Saturday, but it was fun!

The "usual" group met at Borders around 10.



I knew that the "usual" knitters would understand if I completely ignored them, so I quickly cast on a new pair of socks. Talking and casting on 2 at a time on 2 circs doesn't always end happily!

"That guy" who usually gets mad at us for being too loud in his cafe didn't seem to mind us being there this week. He looked over like he was going to jump right into our conversation a couple times, but he didn't look mad or anything.
He must have been feeling our Festive vibe ;)

Next stop in our WWKIPD yarn crawl was Wooly Wonders!




We were down to only 3 of our "usuals" Mayme, Deena and myself, but this shop comes with its own!

I love this shop!

I have never felt the "you're not from around here" vibe in this store. You know when you walk into a new yarn shop and the "locals" get restless, sometimes, dare I say.. snobby?
Not here, well, not that I've seen anyways.
The only problem with this shop is that if you stop in to say HI, and fall for the, "sit and knit a while" trick, you will lose your whole day. (I mean, if you can call that a "problem")

UhOh.. I think Deena likes this shop too!!


It was very good to be reunited with some of my yarn!

Yarn and dye supplies brought back up to an exceptable level, Deena and I decided that it was in our best interest to leave the yarn shop. :) It can be hard to knit when there is soo much yarn around to look at.. and buy.

Since the mercury was starting to bubble up around the 105 mark, we decided it was time to get out of Vegas!
We didn't go very far, but it was nice enough in Boulder City, with the aid of misters, to sit outside.

Milo's has a great patio, and if you sit up next to the building, your wool (and acrylic) stays dry ;)



Their wraps are almost as good as their deserts.. well not really, but they were really good.
A little beer, a little sangria, and of course knitting in public, the not-also-knitting-in-public public ;)

So, this week was a "dark" week at work. That means there are no shows, which means that we, as technicians, got to tear a bunch of stuff up! It all appears to be back together now, but we are here [on Saturday :( ] to make sure everything was put together right. :D

I have a bunch of pictures at home from Jeni's wedding, but I have not uploaded them to photobucket yet. Unfortunately, just as the happy newly married was walking back up the isle together, my camera decided that it was no longer going to work!!
I KNOW!!

We left the reception a little early and went by to see if the warranty was still valid, and of course, it ran out about a month ago :( So I have no pics from when I picked up my son and his girl from prom that night! :( The hubby is out and about today trying to see if anyone here in town can fix it. He is soo great :D

I bought some beads yesterday to make some "snag-free" stitch markers, they will be in my etsy shop sometime next week. (I hope.) I'll let yall know.

Oh.. I started my first sweater! It is a hooded pull-over for my niece. I'm making it a size 2T even though she just turned one, because I want to finish it and mail it to her before she out grows it!! hahaha I will steal my son's camera to post pics of it soon if my camera is still broken.

Well, I need to go SCUBA in the freshly re-filled pool. The water is a cold murky 65 :( I think I'm going to need the thick wet-suit! Hopefully all will be well and I will be able to get out of here soon.

First of '08!

So, woo hoo its '08!

After fighting off co-workers and baby's and even visiting soldiers, I finally lost the battle... I'm sick :(

I started getting a little snifflie at work on Monday, but I blamed my allergies. Then at the New Year's Eve party we went to , I blamed it on the smoke. At the New Years Day party we went to, I blamed my ever worsening symptoms on my allergies and the smoke, but on our way home, when I resorted to wiping my nose with one sleeve and my watery eyes with the other, I finally had to admit that I am sick. :(

In one last ditch effort to pretend I wasn't, I went to cc last night. It was the last one before my daughter heads back to her base, and I didn't want everyone to miss out on meeting her. We went for about an hour, she got to meet a few of the ladies, we ate and then headed home.

I stopped on the way home and picked up the super duper big box of Day Quill, the super duper big box of Ny Quill, a large bag of Halls cough drops (I don't have any coughs yet, but the mentholyptis clears my nose), and the multi pack of pocket size Kleenex pouches.

While we were there, I was informed that we were out of laundry detergent.
As I stood there staring at the never ending selection, trying to decide if I wanted the usual or a new scent, my daughter said, " I use this, doesn't it smell nice." :)

me: "I'm sure it smells great, but I can't smell right now (sick), besides, I'm looking for detergent, not fabric softener."

daughter: "no, I use drier sheets, this is detergent."

me: " no, this side is detergent, that side is fabric softener" (pointing up at the sign)

daughter with a puzzled look: "oh, look its right here on the bottle. fabric softener...huh"

me trying not to bust up right there in the laundry isle: "you haven't been washing your clothes ?..... just swishing them around in peach scented fabric softener ... and then drying them with drier sheets"

daughter: "yep."

me: "but your clothes smell good"

daughter: "and they're soft.."

hahahahhahaha

I love her, but I think her roots might be blonde :)

In the middle of writing this I went to get lunch, I stopped by the "green room" on my way back to visit with the wonderful wardrobe ladies that knit/crochet at the end of their breaks.
There was a lady there that I have seen down there before, I think I may have even spoken to her before, but for some reason it just clicked today.. SHE IS ON MY RAVELRY FRIENDS LIST!
No Way!!

I was like: "are you on ravelry"
she was like: "yeah.. hey"
together: "your on my list"

Workin' on it!

So, I'm sorry I haven't had time to post lately :(
I have been knitting every spare minute at home, and we have been "dark" at work.
That means there are no shows for 2 weeks. We empty the pool and do a whole bunch of work that we could not do other wise.
I will be back to blogging as soon as possible! Hopefully early next week!
I will have pics and everything, I promise I will make it up to you!! :) !!

Moon Landing

So, we are debating the moon landing in our morning meeting, now the topic is changing to Kennedy :) I wonder how much of the day we can spend arguing about things that we may never know the truth about?.
Its amazing how much contradicting information is out there!

I finally got my hair cut last night!! I had them go ahead and throw some color on it too. I was so tired that I feel asleep under the hair dryer! :) So I got a little nap and my hair is now healthily trimmed and dark brown!
There was a woman in the salon talking very loudly on the phone about a guy she works with. I guess he's on suspension from work for messing around with a "few" co-workers! She was telling the girl on the phone that she was going to call the guy's wife!! She repeated the guy's name, first and last, and his place of employment several times!! WOW!!!

My bike is running well. I was having problems with my rear brake, but I think my hubby and I finally got the air worked out of the line, we have pressure! (That's a good thing.) One of my co-workers helped me build a luggage rack that my hubby thought up (I'll post pics later), so now I'm all ready for my club's anniversary trip this weekend! We leave tomorrow morning! I need to pack lite for this weekend, (no chase truck to throw loads of bags in) I'm not sure if I'm going to take a project with me or not.
Who am I kidding, there is always room for a project, now that I'm not just making blankies anymore! I'll probably just take some cotton and a couple wash cloth patterns :)

So, tomorrow is Nevada Day! I'm not exactly sure what it is about, but the kids are off school! Which means that the Varsity football game is tonight! This is the last regular season game for my son's team this year. Regionals start November 9th! woo hooo!

Unfortunately, that means that I will not be going to the knit club that I wanted to check out tonight :( Oh well, it'll still be there next week!

Well, I'm missing out on an argument conversation about how much health insurance sucks and whether it should be blamed on doctors, drug companies, or the government. Gotta go! ;D

Somebody's Oppinion

So, anyone who has not been here before, rest assured, I'm only really opinionated (on my blog) once in a great while, rants are not too common, so please feel free to read more than just this post. :)

Now, on with it:

I was having a conversation with some of my teammates over Slurpee's last night after practice (GO LINE!) and a topic came up that I have often thought about but never really discussed.
When I got home, the exact same topic was on the news!! Very strange!

The topic, you ask. Here goes.. stick with me.

Back in "the day", lets say our grandparents timish, a women's job was to take care of the home; make sure the house was clean, the kids were fed, laundry, shopping.. you get the pic. A man's job was to go to work, mow the lawn, and kill spiders.

Men had the stress of bringing home all the bacon, women had the stress of keeping a nice house and making sure the kids didn't piss off the hubby. Sounds fair to me.

Now, fast forward.
The "Bacon Stress" has now been split between both husband and wife. BUT, the stress of keeping a nice house and caring for the kids has remained mostly on the wife.

Yes, some husbands help out around the house, but when you have someone coming over, is their definition of a "clean" house the same as yours?
Do they feel the stress to make everything just so? Do they feel like they are not doing their "job" or that they are "less than" if there is nothing to drink but water and milk? or if there are spots on the mirror in the bathroom? or dog hair on the sofa? or if your kid put away a dirty glass and now a guest is drinking out of it??!! Not in my house. That is a stress solely my own.
Now, I'm not saying that my wonderful husband makes me feel stress about the house being clean, that is something that is deep down inside of me.. I'm the woman, that's part of my job.. right?

In our struggle for equality in the work place, we have started burring ourselves in stress!
What did those damn bra burners do to us!! hahahahaha I'm half kidding, but think about it.
How much do you do around the house? How much does your significant other do?
Is it equal? We've earned our financial independance, but our families are still domestically dependant on us.
Is what we've gained worth what we've gained?

Now I'm on a mission to find out how other women feel about this!

I was talking to a female co-worker (and fellow knitter) about this topic on the way in from the parking garage this morning (after dropping the kid off at school) and she added another fine point. Another major stress in our lives as women, is looking good.
Now, I know that men still feel pressure to look good, but think about this.

Men that gain some weight after getting married are called "happy" and "well taken care of". Their wives are told what a great job they must be doing.
However, when a woman puts on a little weight, we are "letting our selves go" and its seen as a problem, no one tells the hubby what a "great job" they must be doing takin' care of the little lady!

First game.... DONE!

So, I'm sorry I haven't bloged in a week! I will get all caught up right now!

Work was hecktic all week. We were trying to get the little bugs out after our dark week projects!

Friday was a nice break though! I was out at the lake doing my "advanced diver" dives. I did my deep dive, 70' baby, and a photography dive! I will try to post some of the pics I took when I get them from the instructor!

Football practice was intence last week preping for our first game Saturday! I'm not going to tell you who won yet, I don't want to ruin it for the people that want to watch it on TV, Tuesday night on channel 19!

MOTORCYCLE TIME!!
My hubby is so great! He has been moving right along on my bike. It should be done in the next week or so!! I can't wait to go for a ride :D Ya'll are going to flip when you see this bike! Soon I'm going to stop posting pics so that it'll be a surprise!

He made even more progress than this yesterday, but I didn't take any pics. :( I'm sorry!

I got more work done on giganto blankie, that wedding is only 2 and half weeks away!!! I laid it out last night when I was out of time, and I am alot farther along than I thought I was! I should be able to get a few hours on it tonight!

There are a couple of guys here at work that are expecting little ones anythime now, I need to find more time to crochet! I have some away games coming up, hopefully I can crochet on the bus without getting motion sick!

Well, I have "rescue diver" training this week, so I need to go get my book work done!

My hubby has been keeping a steady pace on my bike, even though I have had football practice and had to work alot of overtime recently. :(

So, its finally Friday! I'm so tired. Calling in to work even crossed my mind while I was hitting the snooze this morning! I could still be in bed right now. Imagine all the crocheting I could have got done on the GIANT blankie.. or all the knitting I could have done.. !

Wow, no more talk like that or I'll end up going home early.

Speaking of home, my internet is not working :( The cable guy is supposed to come out tomorrow morning between 8-10. That means if I get up at 7:30, so I can be ready for him, he'll show up at 9:59, but if I stay in bed, he'll ring the door bell (that doesn't work) and then leave! So I guess I will be getting up early, I just want it fixed. Besides, if I miss him, they won't come back till next Saturday cause there has to be someone home over 18 :( Otherwise, it would have been fixed yesterday!

Is everyone else ready for school to start? I'm going to go get the school supply shoping done this weekend!

Next week is a "dark" week here at work. There are no shows, so we get to do the big projects that would normally mean taking parts out of the show. That means over-time, which I don't really care for, but it only happens 3 times a year, so I'm not complaining.. yet, although I'm sure I will be next week. We are going to be starting at 6 instead of the normal 7 and we might have to work that Saturday also.. which would have been my last Saturday before the WPFL season starts :(

Speaking of football season. We have 2 weeks that are "bye" weeks between Aug.18th and Oct.20th. Luckily, they both land on weekends that I have other things to do! Our first bye week is Sept. 8th, I have a wedding to go to, and the other is Sept.22nd, which is the weekend of a big motorcycle party that was actually this first bike run that I ever went on back in 2002!

Well, I've gotta get some work done, hopefully my internet will be up and running this weekend so I can post some pics.. of something, I'm not sure what, but I haven't posted any pics in a while.

First scrimmage done!

So, I've got a couple bruises and scrapes, but not too bad!
It was alot of fun! I'm really surprised at how quickly I feel like part of the team!
The girls are great!
We didn't "win", but it wasn't a real game either. We definately found some stuff that we need to work on.
4 weeks till our first game!!

I got alot done on the earthtone and shades of blue afgahn that I am working on. I can't post a pic though, it is a gift :D
I'm sorry that I did not get a chance to stop by and see ya'll from cc at the bookstore, I'm sure you had a great time though! I'm going to try to make it to a couple of the Saturday meetings before our games start!

I was supposed to go out to the lake today and get some dives in for work, but the boat called and canceled this morning :( Now I have to work today :(

Oh, back to football!! My son is on his way to camp! He just called to say "hi". :D His team is eating breakfast at some McD's between here and there! The last junk food they will see until they are on their way back on Friday!

Fashion or Masochism??

So, did that get your attention as well as Sex, Sex, Sex? hahhahaha HI JAMIE!!

So, at one time or another, I have been thought to be a lesbian. The reasons given for thinking it are; my job, my type A personality, the fact that I ride my own motorcycle, and the fact that I wear comfortable shoes! Now, I know many straight women that have these same wonderful characteristics, but don't get me started on that.

Oh yeah, my point, there it is!! hahaha! If comfortable shoes are truely a sign of sexual preference, then I have seen the straightest woman EVER!!

So, if you look closely at my "lochness monster" quaility phone pic, you can see that this woman has a knee brace and an ankle brace on her left leg, but she's not going to let that stop her from wearing 4" stelletoes to work all day!!! No sirry bob!

DAMN that's straight!!

Now, I found it funny when I saw her yesterday, but when she did it again today, I couldn't resist taking a pic. and asking her about it. Sorry, that's how I roll hahahhaah!

She said, "yeah my leg hurts, but it hurts in comfy shoes too! I feel naked without my heels." She then tried to explain that she needs to look "professional" since she works in the offices and all.

I tried to nicely hint that "crazy" was more the look she was accomplishing, and what office does she work in where foot fetish shoe wear is "professional"?! She just laughed at me (common response) and went on her way... Very good sence of humor! I like this crazy lady :D

So, I did not get any pics from diving.. or from sitting on the boat sick :( I did get one from work when I was leaving Friday. This is from the very back of the stage while they were getting pre-set for the show.

I have started yet another Seraphina.. hahahha I now have 3 going in 3 different kinds of yarn :D I am also working on a blankie.. I couldn't get things to gauge properly, so that has become a ripple-gahn. I've also been working on some dish clothes... I can't help it, the cotton varigated yellow yarn was just too purty!

My bike hasn't gotten anywhere yet this week :( atleast not at home. The motor guy is working on the motor (I think) and the painter is working on the paint (I think). I should be able to get all the pieces back to the house this weekend.

Speaking of this weekend, my hubby is going out of town for a motorcycle thing, so I'm going to try to get some of the work done on the house. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, it will depend on how much $ is left after I pay bills.

Happy Father's Day!!

So, at 5 am, I was on my way to the Eagle's Lodge to cook Father's Day breakfast!! I can not believe how tired I was! I stayed up a little too late last night crocheting dish clothes hahaha! I'm such a geek!

Anyways, I was not able to complete my adv. SCUBA dives last week :( I was not able to clear my ears at 35 feet :(.. My dive buddy and I ascended a little to see if I could get past it, but I got the spins REALLY bad! He took me to the surface and got me back to the boat.. THANK YOU BUDDY!! I tried sitting on the boat for a while, but the motion wasn't allowing me to get over my dizzyness, so I ended up swimming over to an island. Thank you captain Mike!

So, I will have to go back and try again later. I am going to try some special diving earplugs that our physio dept keeps on hand at work. I am also due for a dive exam, so I will have the dive DR check my ears while I am there. I am pretty sure that it is just my allergies!

My hubby put my new kicked out neck cups and my swing arm back on the frame!!! My paint is back with the painter, we simplified the custom logo, and I picked the font and color myself, so hopefully I will have that back by the end of the week!! It's all coming together.. excellent.. oh except the hubby is going out of town next weekend :( But, we will hopefully still be able to get it done by the end of the month.

This is a pic from under the lifts at work. Normally this view is from 25' under water, but about 2 or 3 times a year, the pool is empty for maintenance and repair.. let me tell ya, swimming up from -25' is WAY easier than climbing the ladder up!

House cont.

So, we finally got everything taken care of on my house deal. It looks like we will be making out pretty good! I sign this afternoon and get the keys tomorrow, we are going to have a lock changing party :D

Tonight, after I sign the papers, I am going to change out the front brake pads on my car.. I will take pics! :D Hopefully it wont take very long and I will be able to post them tonight!

So, I was having a fine day.. made it all the way to the employee parking garage!!
Then a co-worker handed me a copy of an email that the head of my department sent to the assistant head of my department. Lets just say that the HOD Ahod and I will be having a loooong talk with HR tomorrow!

So, I don't think I have mentioned it yet, but I work for the circus. This week we are "dark" (no shows). We have several projects going on, but the most important for the show is the cylinder change out.

These bad boys make the 7 different sections of the stage move from 18" above water, to 17' below water at 3 feet per second.

It is a 25' climb in and out! I made that climb too many times today, and its only Monday! Oh well, its good for my butt!

Well, I have a purple/blue/green blankie for my buddy Ben's grand-daughter that is not going to crochet itself (if it was gonna, it probably would have been done on time, like 2 weeks ago!!) so I better get at it.

I would have paid the sign guys a little overtime to put up at least one more letter.
